Closure vote today

The Council will meet at 1.30 this afternoon to discuss and vote on the closure proposals. I remain hopeful that enough Labour Councillors will see the error in some of the proposals to change their minds.

I've had a lot of emails from parents from different schools and nurseries across the city, and I've been hugely impressed by the very reasoned and researched points they have made. They know that these proposals, and this process is flawed, but they've stayed determined. I am sure your views will be put across in the chamber this afternoon. It could be a long day.

When Edinburgh City Council proposed closing schools, the Labour Party in Holyrood exploded with rage.

The hypocrisy of this situation remarkable, and in the face of 96%, it's not about being populist, it's about community.

Enjoying the blog.

The council make savings of £3.7 million pounds by closing nearly 10% of our Primary Schools. Yet they diverted a council underspend of £14 million to the Commonwealth Games Vanity Project... You could not write this. The Chancellor spoke about the thousands of teachers New Labour have trained... yup - they did, but not only are they not creating jobs for them, they are closing schools! A huge amount of new teachers are being retrained for other jobs... the New Labour Prioject has shown itself for what it is... a vehicle for careerists. People Not Profit.
